Vasily Nesterenko

Vasily Nesterenko is the leading master of the modern Russian painting. He fulfilled the complete academic school in the Soviet Union and supplemented his art education in America. Longstanding expertise in exhibition activity in New-York and Moscow allows him to understand a situation in the modern art world clearly, and to find his own, special pathway in art.
Vasily Nesterenko’s works are recognized in creative environment: he is the youngest People’s Artist of Russia, academician, his canvases are equally close to both ordinary spectators as the high and mighties of this world as well. They are acknowledged by the museum world. It is just enough to remember the presentation of his canvases at the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Historical Museum, at the Central Armed Forces Museum, at the Museum of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior (Christ the Redeemer), at Bolshoy and Maly Manezh.
More than five years ago in Moscow the State Art Gallery of Vasily Nesterenko was established. After its inauguration the wide range of people will have an opportunity to get acquainted with the artist’s creativity, with his new work and already become renowned masterpieces, such as «Four Seasons», «In private», «Crucifixion», series of the Athon works, portraits of cultural workers, landscape series. But the only opportunity to catch a glance of Vasily Nesterenko’s paintings so far is exhibitions.
Vasily Nesterenko is the author of memorable pieces of work, full of bright art images, courageous composition and chromatic solutions. He created colossal murals in the Christ the Savior (Christ the Redeemer) Cathedral and in the Assumption Cathedral in Dmitrov, several monumental historical canvases; he is equally good at secular portraits and ecclesiastical icons as landscapes and still life as well.
